Affiliate Websites - What You Should Know!

Are you thinking of building affiliate websites? Scared you might make the wrong move and end up building something that won’t generate good revenue? In this article I’ll stop you from making those mistakes!

The first question is, what is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is one awesome online business model where you, the affiliate, promote other people’s products on the web and in return you’ll get a commission for each sale you refer to their website or product sales page.

The product owner will provide you with a special referral/tracking link which will track whether it was you who sent the customer or not.

Now building affiliate websites can either be a really fun task, or a really boring one.

Before you build an affiliate website you need to do some research before hand so you can judge whether you are interested in the topic of the website AND whether it’s profitable or not.

So what you need to do is go do some keyword research. You can use a free tool over at freekeywords.wordtracker.com

Type in the base keyword you are interested in. Let’s say I’m going to use Acne as an example. The keyword tool will then spit out other relative keywords as well as display their search volumes per day. Multiply any of those numbers with 4-5 and you’ll get an idea of how

many times people are actually searching for that keyword in Google.

Then go to Google and type that keyword you have chosen into the search box. If you get results which are accompanied by a lot of sponsored ads then you have a profitable topic!

To build your affiliate website you can either start a blog with Wordpress or you can use a website editor such as NetObjects Fusion or XSitePro. The home page of your website has to be targeted around that keyword since you are going to try and rank for that keyword in Google. If you rank in the number 1 spot you’ll get lots of free traffic!

Here are some vital tips when building affiliate websites:

1. Build the site around ONE affiliate product

Don’t try to saturate your website with various similar affiliate product offerings. You won’t make a lot of money. Only focus on one.

2. Add at least 20 pages of content to the website.

Having several pages on your site which are each targeted towards a keyword will also drive traffic to through your affiliate offer once you rank in Google for those terms.

3. Give Away Something Free

This should always be done. Go buy yourself a Private Label Rights report that caters to your niche. Just Google “private label rights ebooks” and you’ll find many. Usually with PLR you can give the ebook away. So sign up to an autoresponder service and add a email capture form on your website where you offer the free ebook in exchange for a name and email address. This will enable you to capture leads to which you can market backend affiliate products for as long as you wish!

4. Provide content OUTSIDE your website

The best way to do this is by writing and submitting articles to a website such as EzineArticles.com

The articles will drive visitors to your site AS WELL as provide your website with valuable backlinks. The backlinks will count as votes to Google and in return you’ll rank higher in Google for your chosen keywords. The more votes/backlinks you have, the better you rank.
