Online Business 1.2.3….
Working Your Way to a Successful Internet Business
By Beth McDuffie
There are a lot of people trying to make money online these days. The problem is that most people are not taught how to market properly. They buy a product that looks great, and it may in fact be a wonderful product, but they have no clue as how to market it. And many times the things they have been told is bad information. My advice to new marketers on the web would be to treat your marketing as a real business. It is a real business! And it needs to be nurtured the same way as you would a “brick and mortar” business.
First you need to be very focused. Organize your time. Plan ahead. Plan one year head. 6 months ahead. 3 months ahead. One month ahead. One week ahead. One day ahead. One thing that my mentor, Alex Jeffreys, has taught me is to make “to-do” list everyday, and also “did” list. A “to-do” list is simply a list of what you need to accomplish the next day. Number them in order of importance, and work your way down the list. If you do not finish them all in one day that is okay! Just carry them over to the next day. But if you keep putting something off because it is stepping out of your comfort zone go on and do it. Remember, it is better to fail forward than to do nothing at all. I have found YouTube is a great place to find information on things you don’t know how to do. There are videos on YouTube about everything, and I guarantee you that what you are looking for is there. Somebody has been struggling with the same thing you are, and then made a video to help people just like you and me. The “did” list is a list of what you actually did when you were suppose to be working on your business. You would be shocked at how much time is wasted doing things like checking email or twittering on Twitter. On your “did” list make sure you put the time down that you started something, like writing an ezine, and the time you stopped. Even if you go take a nap write that down so all your time is accounted for.
Another thing is not to plan on making a million dollars in the first few weeks. It takes time to build a business! You have to build relationships on the Internet just like “brick and mortar” businesses. Internet Marketing has changed in the last few years. You can’t just send an email out selling your product to people you don’t know and expect them to buy. People have been scammed too many times for far too long. Internet Marketing has become social now. People have to get to know you, and trust you, before they will open their wallets. The good thing is there are plenty of places to go on the Internet for social network marketing. Twitter is a great place for this, and it’s fun to do. You also have MySpace, Facebook, and Squidoo just to name a few. You have to let people know you really care about them, and that you will help them succeed in what ever your niche is. Give away far more than they expect. This can be in the form of eBooks or simply helping somebody with a blog widget. When you help somebody you have made a friend for life… and a potential customer.
There is one last thing I would like to add. Maria Andros taught me that you need three things to be successful in your Internet marketing business. She calls it PPP.
1. Passion- You have to be passionate about what you are marketing! You have to really believe in it. If you are not passionate how can you expect people to follow you in your internet marketing venture.
2. Perseverance- You must take action! Do what it takes to be successful! Don’t just dream about what you want to be and do, but go for it!
3. Patience- Don’t have unrealistic expectations. Chances are you are not going to make a million dollars in 1 month. Be willing to work through the hard places that it takes to succeed. Lisa Nichols says, ” Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” Think about that statement, and let it sink deep into your heart.
Only 5% of the people who try Internet marketing succeed. I know you can be part of that percentage. In fact, I know if Internet Marketers begin to work together, helping each other, many more can succeed and have the life they are dreaming about. Remember plan your business from the ground up planning each day the day before. Then actually do what you have planned to do! With your planning, action, and the 3 P’s you are well on your way to success.
