What do I need to open a daycare is a common question which practically any aspiring daycare provider asks him or herself. Don’t worry, if you’re prepared to start small and build up from there, you don’t need much, but it is important to get all the preliminary steps right since these are the foundation of your new business.
Here are some of the things you need to start a daycare:
1. Permits and licenses – You will need a general business permit as well as a fire department permit for your daycare. This is something you need to go to your local administration center and get. Simple as that.
2. You need to have a place in which to run your daycare – Some people do it at home, other people rent. Most people like to begin small in their own home.
3. You will need toys and sleeping mats for the children – Have a little extra but don’t go overboard. You can always buy more toys later on.
4. Children books – Nothing gets kids to sleep faster than a good story and you need to have some handy. Buy used books if you can. It’s a great way to save some money.
5. You will need to spread the word about your business to get the first children. Tell all your friends and family and ask them to tell more people. To get the first 4-5 kids you usually don’t need to do much more.
6. Management software – Some people try to do without a software but I recommend using one to keep things orderly and neat.
7. Name – You need to choose a name for your daycare. Don’t spend too much time over this. Just pick a name and go with it.
Of course, you also need to love children enough to want to be around them all day long. I imagine this is already the case, so all that is left for me to do is wish you the best of luck with your new daycare.
