Build your own website as a resume and then send links to it. Pick a field you are interested in, and offer to do a free site for them. (ie law/dr/ realtor)

Hey…I clicked. Nice. Freelancing is very difficult. Try a couple of freebies, and hope when these two need something different, they will come to you. Maybe with those freebies you could say, I’ll make you a deal…I’ll design your first web site at no cost to you, if you will also assist me in gaining some new clients; does this sound like a fair deal?

See what they say. If the answer is no, then charge them. Whatever you do, don’t sell yourself short and let anyone take advantage of you. Be certain you have screen shots or a CD with the pages on them for show. Also, it’s very important that you create web pages of your own. You can do that in word. If you do some great ‘screen shots’ you can capture any background and use it as a photo to show some samples. Maybe in a picture software, you’d be able to remove the area around the screen shot and just leave the results visible. Sound like a plan?
