Can You Succeed at Affiliate Marketing?

We have all seen the statistic stating that a massive 97% of people who get involved in affiliate marketing will fail. A disturbing figure, I’m sure you will agree. Don’t despair. Firstly, we need to establish what failing is. Some people would regard it as failure if they weren’t achieving the near mythical six figure monthly income. Others would consider themselves to be doing well clearing in the mid hundreds each month. Safe to say success and failure is much like beauty, in the eye of the beholder.
Does this mean that everyone succeeds at affiliate marketing depending on their definition of success? Sadly no. Many, many people see no results at all. Some of these may have believed the blurb on one of those glorious sales pages for the latest guru’s program, telling them that all they need to do is A, B and C and by the end of the week they will be putting down a deposit for their new yacht.
Others, having discovered that there is much more to it may have gone to the trouble of creating a pre-sales page or even a website, then sat back and waited for the hits. Unfortunately that isn’t going to do the trick either.
Those who are a success as affiliate marketers are the people who treat it as a job. They accept from the start that nothing worthwhile comes without some effort. They spend time on research, they learn about keywords, SEO, they discover the best way to use advertising, and they even look into the psychology of sales to gain an understanding of how the wording of a sales pitch can make all the difference.
These are the people who have the drive and discipline to sit down for a set period and say this is my business, this is my job. The very nature of affiliate marketing is that it is a home business. The distractions are many, a demanding spouse, children wanting attention, jobs that need doing, even visitors calling. Sometimes other people don’t regard what you are doing as a real job, (until the money starts coming in) so disturbing you is ok.
In the early days of setting up your business you will spend more time on it than you ever imagined. The importance of these foundations though cannot be over emphasized.
Do the research, learn all you can. Persevere, it will take time for your endeavors to begin to bear fruit but when they do the feeling of joy & achievement makes all those long hours worth it.
And finally remember you don’t have to go it alone, learn from the experiences of others.
