How to Start a Nail Salon Business
Beauty School – Starting Your Own Salon Business
By Jen Hall
Starting your own salon business may be an endeavor you are excited about and eager to pursue. It is a very saturated business, depending on location, but can be very lucrative despite other competition. Even practicing nail technicians may consider opening up their own nail salon because they enjoy what they do and would like to make a profit off of it as well.
The great thing about the nail industry is that training is readily available, opening a business is relatively inexpensive and you do not have to be a nail technician to start your own business. Here is helpful advice on becoming a nail salon owner.
With the right resources, your salon business has the potential to make at least 35,000 a year to start. Services your nail salon can service include massage, waxing, tanning, pedicures, nail art, manicures, acrylics, Gels, Wraps and Fiberglass nails.
Communication is also your key to success. It is important that both you and your employees meet customer needs and make them feel comfortable. If you are able to establish this bond, your clients will remain loyal to your salon. The more customers you have, the more profit you can make. An increase in clients will also allow you to expand your business, which means a larger working area, more service options and more employees skilled in those services. For more on customer communication, see Nail Salon Success.
Below is a basic idea of key points to starting your own salon business. You will have to research each topic to figure out how you can use the key points to your advantage and how to achieve them.
• Create a business plan for your salon business
• Decide which services you want to initially offer at your salon
• Decide what type of salon you are interested in purchasing
• Ways to finance your salon
• Getting insurance and license requirements for your salon business
• Salon location
• Salon equipment
• Building a clientele
• Building staff
• The name of your salon
With these basics, you should have a general understanding about what opening a salon business involves. There are many beauty schools, cosmetology schools and community colleges that offer salon business training so you can gain knowledge and pursue your dream!

A good one! The “service” sector grows fast, especially in the developing countries. Though at this very moment I’d wait a lil bit since the “crisis” stops some of us from spending money on such treats.. Anyway, a good idea! Cheers!

I think in saturated markets such as this, it is important to really focus on the customer service aspect of your business. Providing a good product and making your customers happy and satisfied, will ensure that your business can be successful.

Hairdressing and salons is certainly a very saturated industry at the moment – in the UK, the past 5 years have seen them pop up on practically every row of small shops in every town.

The low start up cost makes it a very appealing business venture for sure. People are always going to care about beauty as well so it seems like a good idea for a long term investment opportunity.

Yes I agree it can be a great idea for a business. You must be very focused on customer service this days. Offering magazines, coffee and tea are a must to add that extra touch. If you can have a place where people can get their nails, hair, makeup waxing or laser hair removal and tanning done at the same place/time that would be ideal. People do always care about beauty and looking younger and healthier.

I’ve looked into what is involved in becoming a manicurist or a nail technician fairly extensively – I must have read the standard cosmetology textbook, Milady’s, several times. There is quite a bit involved in becoming a nail technician! Especially if you live in the US, there are quite a few states that require you to have a cosmetology license (which requires you to have completed a cosmetology course) to be allowed to open a business. I’d highly recommend professional training – and I’d also recommend getting a business coach at startup, and asking for some strategies which you can implement by yourself down the track.

Beauty can start with the smallest of things. A salon is more than a business it creates beauty and hope and love. We should never forget that the beauty created can help someone fall in love and create a life time relationship.

I love the post you have here. The way you portray the said step by step hints as to the proper sequence of procedure. I guess I would add the main theme for this one: Sequence and Proportion. It does drive my way of “before planning”. I must set my mind on the one thing that would greatly enhance business especially when you are starting one. Focus on what you love then go to the main steps. Thanks!

I Believe You Can Build An Incredible Career in 52 weeks.
Mission 1 Take Personal Responsibility For Your Success
The first mission is this: You have to learn to take personal responsibility. Are you ready to follow your dreams? Because if you are, you have to realize that everything you have in your life is the result of the decisions you have made up to this point.
Your success is not up to your husband or wife, -your mom or dad; it’s not up to your boss. Your success isn’t based upon how good or bad the economy is, your success is up to one person and one person only — you. You’re in the driver’s seat. You’re the one who determines the direction you will travel -and how fast you’ll get there. I’m just hoping to help you steer clear of some of the hazards. You must take personal responsibility for your success.

When you’re first starting up I think your location is the most critical thing you need to consider. If you start up at a good location you won’t even need advertising, people will just walk in to check it out while they are out shopping.

Success in any sphere of life is all about confidence. And beauty or good appearance is the most primary factor of them all. And as someone rightly said, as this business is very cpmpetetive, the right product mix, attractive incentives and a personalized service to make this or any kind of service oriented business a success

An increase in clients will also allow you to expand your business, which means a larger working area, more service options and more employees skilled in those services.
