A few years ago, text blogging was considered to be something special. But these days millions of people blog about their experiences and share knowledge with others. And most top bloggers are moving to video to better convey information with their audience. Starting with video could be daunting for someone who’s never done it before. You are going to be seen by others on the web, and once your video out there, you can’t easily take it back. Vlogging is the future, and the sooner you get over your fears, the sooner you are going to reap the rewards.
Here are a few tips to get you started with video-blogging:
- Plan: have a proper business plan. I can’t emphasize this enough. I have seen too many folks who post videos on YouTube for the sake of posting it, but have no idea how to build a real presence online. Plan things out and find out what you can do with your videos.
- Website: create a website around your videos. It’s fine to post your videos to YouTube, but you don’t own YouTube. You can own your own vlog, and that is what you should do. The sooner you get started with this process, the sooner you can build your traffic.
- Don’t be shy: I know a lot of us are shy in front of cameras. But don’t be. If you are shy, that could take away from your delivery.
- Be Yourself: don’t be a phony. Be yourself or it will show.
- Practice: practice makes perfect. Don’t cut corners. Study your previous videos and learn from your mistakes.
- Smile: make others comfortable with your delivery. You may not be able to see your fans, but they can see you!
- Look in the mirror: don’t go in front of camera after getting up from a 12 hour nap. You won’t look good, and it could hurt your brand.
- Brand yourself: that’s what it’s all about. Make a brand around your work and protect it at all costs.
- Know your software: you are going to need a software to edit your videos. Learn how to get things done or if you can afford it, hire an intern.
Vlogging doesn’t have to be hard. Once you make one video, you are going to make way more comfortable and before you know it, you are a video-blogging superstar.
